Review: Saving Our Sanity by Karen Carter

Saving Our Sanity I have been waiting to do this review for a long time. Karen Carter is a longtime BeingFrugal.net reader, and Karen let me know months ago that she was writing a book. It’s finally out, and I’m pleased to have been among the first to read it!

Saving Our Sanity: How One Family Learns to Organize, Live Frugally and Gain Financial Freedom is something of a guidebook, containing everything Karen and her husband learned as they journeyed toward a more organized and frugal lifestyle.

The first half of the book contains six sections:

  • Section One: How We Began Organizing Our Home and Our Lives
  • Section Two: Steps to Financial Freedom
  • Section Three: Saving Money
  • Section Four: Savin’ O’ the Greenbacks – Frugality is Fun!
  • Section Five: Learn to Do it Yourself
  • Section Six: Recommended Reading

Within these sections, Karen walks you through tips she used to organize her house room by room, strategies for getting out of debt, and ways to save money. She also provides plenty of recipes for inexpensive meals, mixes, and simple cleaners.

The second half of the book contains resources for any organizational or financial problem you can think of! Karen is the master of finding information on the internet, and she passes on this information to her readers with nearly 70 pages of links to help you in your quest to become organized and frugal.

All in all, I think this is a fantastic first book by Karen Carter. It is self-published, so it’s not quite as polished as a book with the benefit of a professional editor, but it’s close enough that I had to ask her to make sure I had the publishing information right.

Saving Our Sanity is available at Amazon and Create Space for $17.00. Someday I’m hoping that it’s available in e-book format, as all the links would really make for a great digital edition.

Congratulations on your first book, Karen!

*Disclaimer: Karen sent me a copy of this book, free of charge. I offered to do an honest review.
